Sheet Metal Anvil Sculpture – A Statement Piece in Steel Fabrication

Outside our workshop sits a bold example of what we do best — a large decorative anvil fabricated entirely from sheet metal, mounted on a custom steel base. Designed and built in-house, this piece acts as a permanent advertisement, demonstrating our approach to metal fabrication, welding, and bespoke steelwork.

Rather than relying on signage alone, this sculpture provides a physical representation of our fabrication capabilities, combining creativity with the same technical processes used in our commercial and structural projects.

Bespoke Sheet Metal Fabrication

The anvil sculpture was fabricated using sheet metal, carefully cut, formed, and welded to recreate the recognisable shape and proportions of a traditional anvil. Although decorative, the construction process reflects the same standards applied to functional metalwork.

This project demonstrates:

  • Precision sheet metal cutting and forming
  • Accurate fit-up and joint preparation
  • Structural consideration despite decorative intent
  • Controlled welding for strength and appearance

Fabricating a complex, recognisable object from flat sheet material requires a strong understanding of metal behaviour, tolerances, and fabrication sequencing.

Welded Construction with a Seamless Finish

All sections of the anvil were fully welded, with joints carefully ground and blended to achieve a solid, seamless appearance. The goal was to avoid the look of assembled components and instead create a sculpture that appears forged from a single mass of steel.

This approach mirrors the finishing standards we apply across:

  • Architectural metalwork
  • Structural steel fabrication
  • Bespoke staircases and handrails

Clean welds and consistent finishing are essential not only for appearance, but also for durability — particularly on outdoor installations.

Custom Steel Base for Strength & Visibility

The anvil is mounted on a fabricated metal box, designed and built to support the weight of the sculpture while elevating it for maximum visibility outside the workshop.

The base serves multiple purposes:

  • Provides a stable, durable foundation
  • Enhances the industrial aesthetic
  • Allows the sculpture to function as an outdoor feature
  • Reinforces the fabrication-led design

Both the sculpture and base were manufactured using traditional metal fabrication techniques combined with modern tooling.

A Fabrication-Led Workshop Advertisement

This sheet metal anvil functions as more than a decorative piece — it is a working advertisement that communicates our skills instantly.

It showcases:

  • Our capability in sheet metal fabrication
  • The quality of our welding and finishing
  • Our ability to produce bespoke, one-off metalwork
  • A practical, hands-on approach to fabrication

For passers-by and visitors alike, the sculpture creates a strong visual association with steelwork, craftsmanship, and fabrication expertise.

Decorative Metalwork Using Structural Skills

While much of our work focuses on structural steelwork, staircases, and architectural metal, this project highlights how the same fabrication skills apply to decorative metalwork, signage, and sculptural features.

Whether the project is structural or visual, our fabrication process is built around:

  • Accuracy and planning
  • Strong welded construction
  • Clean, professional finishes
  • Materials selected for longevity
