Structural Steel A-Frames with Timber Trusses and Ridge Beam – Hybrid Roof Build Near Pooley Bridge, Lake District
J Johnstone Engineering recently completed a bespoke structural steel installation for a new-build project near Pooley Bridge in the Lake District. This impressive hybrid roof structure combined steel A-frames at each end of the building, two timber trusses in the centre, and a steel ridge beam running the full span — tying the structure together both visually and structurally.
All steelwork was fabricated in-house at our Cumbria workshop and installed on-site with full EN1090 Class 2 compliance.
Blending Steel and Timber for Strength and Style
The design of this property aimed to balance modern structural performance with traditional architectural features. Our steel A-frames at either end provided critical support for the roof loads, while the central section used exposed timber trusses for a more natural finish.
To bring it all together, we supplied and installed a precision-engineered ridge beam, designed to connect the steel and timber elements securely and evenly distribute the roof load across the full structure.
