Twin A-Frame Steelwork with Extended Ridge Beam for Balcony Feature – New Build in Cumbria

J Johnstone Engineering recently delivered and installed a complex structural steel package for a striking new build property in Cumbria, designed to take full advantage of its elevated location and scenic views.

This job included the fabrication and fitting of twin steel A-frames, a ridge beam that flew over the top to support an extended balcony roof, and a series of structural beams and posts across both the ground floor and first floor of the property.

Blending Strength with Design – Steel That Supports the View

The architectural design called for strong, clean lines and open spaces — while also extending the roof structure to create a covered balcony overlooking the landscape.

To make this work, we fabricated:

Two precision A-frames positioned to carry both the main roof and the external section over the balcony
A ridge beam extending beyond the A-frames to cantilever over the outdoor area
Additional posts and beams at both floor levels to support interior spans and external elements
